Manifesto | Ostrom

We, the members of OSTROM, acknowledge the urgency of designing and developing sustainable, just and prosperous societies that respect the limits of our planet.

Nature and the living world used to be the passive backdrop of the human theatre. They become the main characters. Our ecosphere has never changed that fast, forcing us to change along.

At the exact moment, an even faster revolution is happening. The knowledge revolution of machine learning and possibly soon general artificial intelligence, together with exponential computing power, are enabling machines to profoundly transform behaviours and social relationships for the worse or the better, probably both.

These revolutions redraw our geographical and social maps.

The inexorable extinction of the old models will not be without confrontation, loss and damage. The emergence of new ostroms could generate countless opportunities and produce new wealth.

We believe that the speed, impact and outcomes of this twin revolution will largely depend on the ability of the stakeholders to cooperate, secure new value systems and build robust social models.
